Explore the untamed Northumbrian landscape

The small hamlet of Lanehead in the Northumberland National Park is home to Tarset Tor. Around 40 miles from both Newcastle and Carlisle and 11 miles south of the Scottish border, we are deep in Hadrian’s Wall country with the stunning north-east coastline just an hour’s drive away. There couldn’t be a better base from which to enjoy all this magnificent region has to offer.

The area’s breathtaking landscape is criss-crossed by cycle trails and footpaths, offering plenty of opportunities for adventure. Keen anglers will appreciate the world-class salmon and trout fishing on the River Tyne and Kielder Water, while golf aficionados will be spoilt for choice with a superb selection of courses. For a spot of relaxation, the historic Roman market towns of Hexham and Corbridge are within easy reach and feature boutique shops, galleries and restaurants. There are good local eateries, too, in neighbouring Greenhaugh, Charlton and Bellingham villages.

While you’re here, why not take a trip to the coast? The road meanders through glorious forests and moorland on the way to Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island. The beaches at Craster and Alnmouth are all more than worth the journey and you can stop off at Alnwick Castle en route.
